Making the ABC book

To keep things simple, keep all of the letter tracing sheets together. Print and cut the freebie, and slide the pages inside the sleeves of a 4 X 6 photo album. (You can usually grab a whole class set at the Dollar Store!)

Then, grab a Matchbox car and model for students how to trace each letter. Easy peasy! One quick prep and you’ll have them to use time and time again.

Letter Tracing

Giving students plenty of practice forming letters is an important step in helping them become independent writers because it helps the process become automatic. When students can write the ABCs without having to spend a lot of energy thinking about how to do it, their brains are freed up to work on other parts of writing like identifying letter sounds and adding punctuation.

Learning correct letter formation is an important piece of the writing puzzle. To help students learn proper formation, this activity includes a little GO sign at the start of each letter. Students place the car on the road next to the sign and drive their car across the letter.

So straightforward and engaging!
