Little leprechauns will love counting their gold stash with these motivating counting activity cards. Slide them into a Ziploc to make a simple preschool busy bag or set them up as a math station.

However you decide to use them, these freebies are an engaging way to practice counting, number recognition and number sequencing.

Getting Ready

To prep this fun counting activity, I printed my counting cards (below) on cardstock to give them extra durability and cut along the grey lines to separate them.

You can always run them through a laminator to use year after year if you’re using these for an entire classroom.

Then, I grabbed a bag of gold coins I’d picked up at a dollar store a couple weeks ago and invited my three year old to join me. Prep doesn’t get much simpler than that!

Leprechaun Gold Counting Activity

Middle Brother loves numbers, so he was ready to jump into the counting activity the second he saw the pots. I challenged him to find the number one first. He quickly picked it up and counted out one coin to add on top.

“What number comes next?” I asked.

“TWO!” he exclaimed. Middle Brother found the number two card and counted out two gold coins.

He continued counting until he filled all ten pots.Counting Leprechaun Gold!!

By the end, the table was covered in a sea of gold leprechaun coins!  This was a great, seasonal way to practice counting that kept my son engaged the entire time!

Counting Extension Activity

As an extra challenge to this counting activity, I encouraged him to line up the cards in 1-2-3 order. He’s still working on the numbers above five, so it was pretty difficult but, with a little help, he succeeded. This extra step was a hands-on way to practice number sequencing, too.

    1. Hi Regan,
Thanks for reaching out. This freebie was made by a contributing writer, so unfortunately, we don’t have numbers 11-20 available.
However, you might want to check out our Leprechaun Count and Match on our sister site, The STEM Laboratory, as that does include numbers 1-20.
You can check it out HERE.
      Warmly,
