Getting Ready
This addition game was super quick and simple to prep!
I printed the addition mittens and snowball manipulatives on white cardstock.
Then I laminated the mittens and snowballs to ensure their durability.
Next, I cut along the solid black lines to separate the mitten addition cards and snowballs and placed them all in a 4 x 6 photo box for easy storage.

I printed off one mitten addition record sheet for each child and we were ready to play!
Mitten Addition Game
This activity can be used in a small group or as an independent math center.
We’d been practicing addition for a few months, so I decided to have students play the game on their own so they could review their math facts.
The first student set up the addition game. She placed all her mittens in one pile and her snowball manipulatives in another pile.
She selected one math mitten from the pile: a pink mitten with 3 + 4.
She took out 3 snowballs and laid them in a row under the mitten.
Then, she took 4 more snowballs and laid them in a row under the 3 snowballs.

She counted out loud to add 3+4:
1, 2, 3… 4, 5, 6, 7.
The answer was 7!
She found the corresponding box on her recording sheet and wrote 3 + 4 = 7.

Then she put the snowball manipulatives back in a pile and selected a new mitten to solve next to continue the addition game fun!
The child continued this process until all of the addition mittens were complete and her record sheet had each problem on it.
