Getting Ready

This exercise counting game is super simple to prepare! All I needed was the Spin-an-Exercise board, a pencil, a paper clip and some kids who were ready for some exercising fun.

To prepare the activity, I first printed the Spin-an-Exercise board (found below) on white cardstock.

(There is also a black and white copy of the board included in the download so you could print on colored cardstock instead.)

I ran the board through my laminator for durability and grabbed a pencil and paper clip for the spinner. We were ready to go!

Spin-an-Exercise Activity

To play, my students first spun the exercise spinner.

There were six exercise possibilities – jumping jacks, running, squats, leg lifts, lunges and push-ups.  I had a student model each exercise for the class before starting the activity.

Then, they spun the 1-10 spinner.  The 1-10 spinner told my students how many of each exercise they had to do.

For example, if they spun lunges on the exercise spinner and 5 on the 1-10 spinner they did 5 lunges.

If they spun running as their exercise, I told them to run in place and count to the number they spun on the 1-10 spinner.

My students repeated the steps, allowing them multiple opportunities to exercise and count.

They were so enthusiastic about this exercise counting game! It was especially great for my kinesthetic learners because it allowed for a lot of movement.

My students worked with a partner, but this would also be a lot of fun to have children do at home over the summer.
