This fun, hands-on sight word game helps kids memorize common words so that they can increase their reading fluency. This sight word game is easy to set up and great for building  a new reader’s confidence.
It’s the perfect complement to our super popular EDITABLE Sight Word Games.
Getting Ready
Before my son could play, I needed to gather a few supplies:
- Brown construction paper
- Scissors
- A black marker
- A circular stencil {I used the rim of my youngest son’s sippy cup.)
- A spatula
If your child is new to memorizing sight words, you’ll want to pick 5-6 to work on so that she doesn’t feel overwhelmed. If your child already knows many sight words, choose the entire list of 20 words.
I cut out the pancake circles, spread them out on a flat surface and grabbed a spatula.
Sight Word Pancakes
Then it was time for the fun! I handed my son the spatula and called out a sight word. Â He eagerly flipped over the pancake showing that word. We continued reading and flipping until all of the pancakes were face down.
What a great way to work with words!
