Watching children cuddle up with a book in a cozy reading corner is one of my favorite sights in the classroom. But if your reading area isn’t inviting, you may find that kids aren’t as interested in reading and relaxing there are they could be.
These gorgeous classroom libraries are packed with inspiring ideas you can add to your own space!
Two Things to Think About
The key to an inviting classroom library is to design it with kids in mind. You want to focus on two elements when building a classroom library: comfort and functionality.
Before putting up pretty decorations and comfy seats, you will need to make sure your books are organized. Depending on the age of the child and your reader center goals, you can divide your books by type, reading level, author, subject, or alphabetically.
There is no wrong way to organize a library, kids just need to be able to access whatever book they want without destroying the entire organization system in place.
If a child can quickly pull out the book they want and put it back in its place, your sanity will be saved and kids will enjoy the class library more.
After organization, spend some time creating an inviting atmosphere.
Comfy rugs, fun chairs, and cute decorations all work together to create an inviting space. Use these examples of gorgeous classroom libraries to fuel your own imagination for what your classroom library could look like.
