Getting Ready
Prepping the Halloween Rhyming Match Up was easy peasy.
I printed off the matching cards on white cardstock and laminated them for use again and again.
EXTENSION IDEA: To make this activity more challenging for kids who are ready to be stretched, print off a record sheet so they can write the pairs too!
Halloween Rhyming
To start, I laid out all of the rhyming cards face down on our table.
The first student in my small group turned over two cards and read the words out loud: hat and spider.
Since the words didn’t match, the child turned the cards back over and it was the next player’s turn.
The second player turned over the cider card and remembered where the spider was.
Because the word ended in the same sound, she had the first match!
She picked up both cards and add them to her “keep pile”.
Working in a circle, each student took a turn to try and make a match.
When all of the cards had been claimed, the players counted the number of words they collected in their “keep pile” and the player with the most cards won!
Then they shuffled the cards, laid them out again, and jumped right back in for another round of play!

My family started decorating Sept. 30th! We couldn’t wait to get our house ready for Halloween. My kids have already decided what they are going to be too! I am looking forward to all the leftover candy!
I must say that I am enjoying my first Halloween with Pinterest! So many great ideas!
I am a big Pinterest fan too, Eric. The decorations… the food… it’s so much fun discovering all of the possibilities.
