Making the ABC Book
I wanted to keep all of the letter tracing sheets together in an easy to grab busy bag book for my boys. After printing and cutting the freebie (below), I picked up a 4 x 6 photo album from the dollar store and slid the pages inside the sleeves.
Then, I grabbed a Matchbox car and invited the boys to join me. Easy peasy!
Letter Tracing
Giving kids plenty of practice forming letters is an important step in helping them become independent writers. When children can write the ABC’s automatically, their brains are freed up to work on other parts of writing like identifying letter sounds and adding punctuation.
Since I wanted the boys to learn correct letter formation, I included a little GO sign at the start of each letter. My boys placed the car on the road next to the sign and drove their car across the letter.
So straightforward and engaging!!

GREAT idea! I’m a kindergarten teacher and was wondering if you would consider having a lowercase alphabet writing too in the future? 🙂
Great suggestion, Nadine!! I’m working on a lowercase alphabet book as we speak. In the meantime, I just posted the free number writing and counting book that might be helpful: https://www.playdoughtoplato.com/2014/10/21/number-counting-number-tracing/
