Nothing makes kids smile quite like a batch of freshly baked cookies. This playful word work game brings that excitement to life by having children read, spell and write sight words as they race to bake their own batch of yummy cookies.

Getting Ready

Finishing the prep work was quick and easy!

I printed the board game on cardstock to give it extra durability and grabbed a playing dice and several playing pieces.

I used spare pieces from an old board game but LEGOS, counting bears or coins work well too.

Then, I made one copy of the record sheet for each child and called them over to play.

To play, the first player put her game piece on START and rolled the die. A three!

She counted three spaces and read the word she landed on out loud: “too.”

She spelled it out loud, “t-o-o” and then both players wrote it on their record sheet.

Then, it was Player Two’s turn to roll, read and spell.

Play continued until Player One reached FINISH. Then, they cleared the board and started again!

It was such a fun way to practice our sight words. And, because it’s editable, you’ll be able to practice any words under the sun, too.
