Getting Ready

To prep the alphabet activity, I simply printed off the alphabet sheet (below) and grabbed our stash of plastic Easter eggs.

Inside each egg, I hid an alphabet magnet.

I placed the stuffed eggs in a basket and grabbed our box of crayons.

Viola! We were ready to play.

Alphabet Easter Eggs Activity

Little Sister (age 4) has been working so hard on letter recognition, so she was excited to jump to work.

She happily grabbed one egg at a time, opened it up and named the letter inside.

Then, she found the pair on her sheet and colored the egg to match.

For instance, when she discovered a red N inside one of the eggs, she colored the N on her sheet red too!

Because I was working with Little Sister one-on-one, I didn’t need an answer key because I could check her work as we went along. But, if I were completing this alphabet activity in a classroom with lots of students who were working at the same time, I would have colored a key before jumping into the activity.

One egg after the next, Little Sister eagerly named the letter and colored her sheet to match.

Alphabet Activity Extension Idea

To make the activity more challenging for students who are ready to be stretched, you can print off the second version of the record sheet and have them work on upper and lowercase pairs!

It’s such a simple way to step up the difficulty.
