This paper plate flower craft for kids is sure to brighten up your home or classroom after a cold and dreary winter.
And, as a big bonus, it’s a great homemade Mother’s Day gift too! My favorite Mother’s Day gifts from the kids are items they have made themselves.
Getting Ready
To prep for the flower craft, I first gathered our supplies:
- Small paper plates (dessert size)
- Paint (green paint for the stem and another color for the flower)
- Colored cardstock (green for leaves and another color for the petals)
- Large craft stick (we used a size bigger than the regular-sized craft sticks)
- Glue
- Tape or glue dots (to attach the craft stick stem)
- Paper cutter or scissors to cut petals
Paper Plate Flower Craft
First, we painted the paper plate bright yellow and allowed it to dry. (Kids could color the plate instead if you were short on time.)
We painted the craft stick green and then cut our pink cardstock into small rectangles. I prepped this for the kids using my paper cutter to get uniform pieces but it would be a good opportunity to get in some scissor practice if you don’t mind a little variety in your sizes.
The kids glued the pieces of paper around the paper plate to make petals and attached the craft stick to the back with a dab of hot glue. (Tape or glue dots would work well, too.)
We cut two leaves from our green paper and glued them to either side of the craft stick, forming petals.
That’s it! A simple flower craft for kids that’s sure to brighten up any room.
Flower Craft Extension Activities
