This digraph sort was quick and easy to prep!
I printed the bucket and picture pages on white cardstock. If you’re using these for a classroom, consider laminating for longevity.
Then, I laminated the cards for extra durability before cutting out the buckets and shell picture cards along the black lines.
There were four digraph buckets and twenty-four shell picture cards in all.
Beach Bucket Digraph Sort
To begin, I wanted to review each digraph sound with my small group.
As I laid down each bucket on the table, I had the kids say the sound together with me and asked if they could think of an example.
Once all four buckets were down, I mixed up the shell cards and placed them in a pile.
Then, the first student picked up the shell card.
She drew the card with a chick on it and read the word out loud.
I asked the group to say the digraph sound: “Ch… chick!”
She placed the chick picture on top of the correct digraph bucket.
The students took turns drawing cards, reading out loud and placing the picture cards in the correct pile.
After all of the picture cards had been read, we reviewed each digraph sound and said the name of all the pictures on each bucket. This digraph sort was a big hit!
