Getting Ready

To make our letter tracing sheets book, I printed the freebie (available here) and cut apart the pages. I organized the letters in ABC order and slid each one into a 4 x 6 dollar store photo album.

Free printable lowercase letter tracing book. What an awesome busy bag or literacy center for new writers!

Then, I grabbed one of my boys’ Matchbox cars and invited my 4.5 year-old to join me.

Lowercase Letter Tracing

My son’s been playing with our uppercase letter tracing book a lot over the last few weeks so he knew just what to do. He placed the Matchbox car on the road next to the “GO” sign and used the arrow as a guide to drive it along the road.

So cool!! Use these free printables to make a lowercase letter tracing book. What an awesome literacy center or busy bag!

There were a couple of tricky letters like the “d” (above) that required a little intervention on my part. (It can be hard for new writers to know how to form some letters and teaching them how to do it correctly the first time saves save them a ton of frustration later.)

My son caught on quickly though and eagerly whizzed his way through the book. Easy peasy and oh so fun!!

  2. The lowercase d should actually start from the round part not the tall line. The lowercase b starts from the tall line then moves into the round part, which is the opposite of the lowercase d.
