These gumdrop counting cards are a festive and fun way to help preschoolers and kindergarteners work on the numbers 1 to 10 this holiday season.

We typically don’t eat a lot of candy, but who can resist getting a package of colorful gumdrops?!

They’re perfect for decorating a gingerbread house, stringing on a garland or (in this case) working on math!

Getting Ready

These cards are so simple to prepare!

I just printed the set (below) and laminated them for durability because (let’s face it!) preschoolers can be rough on things.

Then I cut apart the cards, grabbed some gumdrops and I was ready to go!

NOTE: I like to store our counting cards in a sandwich-sized zip top bag. They are perfect for my preschooler to grab whenever she wants to practice counting and they’re easy for me to give her when I need a few minutes of hands-off time.

We are still working on colors, so I love that these cards have both red and green gumdrops for my daughter to match as she is counting.

Having two colors also helps her understand that the numbers we are saying don’t only apply to a certain color or object. That’s important since counting is such an abstract concept for small children.

Plus, you can talk about how the gumdrops feel! For instance, children might say they are gritty, rough, sticky…

You may even decide to perform a scientific test to discover what the inside of the gumdrop feels like or how they taste!
